Longtime Taos visitors may know our shop as Alpine Xtreme, the name it carried before the current owners took the helm in September 2019. It's now part of Bluebird Mountain Sports, alongside our shops in Angel Fire, Santa Fe, and Salida. It's still the same spot next to the Gondolita you've always depended on for gear, rentals, and services.
A trip to Taos should be about skiing, and not about waiting. Whether you're staying in the village or driving up from the town of Taos, it helps to have a shop at the bottom of the mountain, and ski school for your kids next door.
We're right at the bottom of the lifts, so you can boot up here in the shop, click in outside, and ski right back when something needs adjusting.
We're built for skiing straight from the shop door and out onto the slopes.
Boot up in a warm shop, walk a few steps to the snow, and go. At the end of your ski day, just ski back to the door. If something doesn't feel right after your first run, you're minutes from a fix.
The Gondolita next to our shop serves the Rio Hondo Learning Center, Taos Ski Valley's home base for young skiers. Get the kids fitted here, send them up to lessons, and be on the lift yourself without a second stop.
Taos is known for its steeps, and more than half of its terrain is rated advanced or expert. On a mountain like this, a well-fitted boot and the right ski for the day matter more than usual, so we take the time to get both right before you head up.
Adult and kids' ski, snowboard, and boot packages, with damage insurance included and helmets available. Pick up the evening before and skip the morning rush at the counter. Find out more about our rental packages.
We offer full-service bench work, with most jobs ready by 5 PM the day after drop-off. Leave your skis or board with us when you come off the mountain, and pick them up right at the base.
We stock current-season demo skis and boards, so you can try this year's equipment on Taos terrain before you decide whether to buy.
Our team provides bootfitting, custom footbeds, liner work, and shell modification, on boots bought here or anywhere else.

Winter hours: 7:30 AM to 6 PM, daily, during ski season
We have a free, easily accessible storefront parking lot, right off Highway 50, for easy gear pickups, drop-offs, and prep.
The mountain runs from 9,350' at the base to 12,481' at the top of Kachina Peak, across 1,294 acres. Taos is steep: more than half its terrain is rated advanced or expert, and young skiers have their own learning area at the Rio Hondo Learning Center. Taos Ski Valley is about 19 miles from the town of Taos, on NM 150, roughly 89 miles from Santa Fe and 152 miles from Albuquerque. The base sits high, so if you're coming from lower elevations, drink plenty of water and give yourself an easy first day. If you arrive the day before you ski, come by after you've checked in: evening pickup means no waiting at the counter in the morning, and your first day starts on the snow.
