Monarch's terrain runs from gentle groomers to steep, treed lines, so the right gear depends on who's using it. We fit by age, size, ability, and how you plan to ski the mountain.
Every Salida package below includes a helmet, and reserving online takes 10% off.
Save 10% when you reserve. No reservation deposit. Damage insurance included.
Book each rider individually, children included, so sizes are ready when you arrive. Reserving takes 10% off the regular rate, and we don't take a deposit.
Boots come first. We size each renter in person, then match skis or a board and set bindings to that person's height, weight, and ability.
Gear can go home with you from 2 PM the day before, at no additional rental-day cost, so nothing stands between you and US-50 in the morning.
Equipment is due before closing or by 10 AM the next day. Return early and you're only billed for days used. Keep it longer, and we'll get you sorted out. Damage insurance is included.
Kid packages run $26.10 reserved and junior packages $30.60, both with a helmet in the price. Adult pricing applies up to 13 years old. Bring your children in: a foot that fit last February often doesn't now, and a helmet that's become loose is worth catching at the counter, before your ski day.
All ski packages include skis, boots, poles, and a helmet.
All snowboard packages include board, bindings, boots, and a helmet.
Salida is the only Bluebird shop renting cross-country skis.

Our Salida shop serves skiers, snowboarders, and mountain travelers preparing for central Colorado conditions. Whether you are renting for a weekend trip, buying past-season or demo equipment, getting your setup tuned, or asking about the right gear for the day, our team can help.
16101 W US Hwy 50,
Salida, CO 81201
Open daily, 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM, all ski season long
We have a free, easily accessible storefront parking lot, right off Highway 50, for easy gear pickups, drop-offs, and prep.
The building originally operated as Shavano Ski Shop until our current owner bought it in December, 2021. Bluebird is independent and family run, with bootfitters and full repair benches at every location. For lift status and mountain conditions, check Monarch's directions and conditions page, and for Colorado road conditions & the state's traction law, use COtrip.
Monarch Mountain is Salida's local resort. Winter driving on US-50 can mean packed snow, and Colorado's traction law goes into effect during storms, so it's worth checking COtrip before you set out. If you arrive in Salida the day before you ski, stop by the shop after you get in: an evening pickup is the best thing you can do to save time on your first morning.

Blue Bird Ski Rental went above and beyond for our family. They stayed open late the day we arrived to make sure we were all set with skis, and every staff member we met was friendly, helpful, and just a pleasure to work with. On our last day, we were worried we’d have to cut skiing short to return our gear, but they worked with us to arrange an easy return so we could enjoy every minute on the mountain. Truly a great experience from start to finish—highly recommend!

Do I need a reservation?
How far is Monarch Mountain from the shop?
When can I pick up and return my gear?
Can I take rental gear to other Colorado resorts?
What skis or board should I be on at Monarch?
Reserve for everyone riding, get fitted for your gear, and collect your equipment starting at 2 PM the day before your Monarch trip.
